Running

Intensity Level: Light | Moderate | Vigorous

What is Running?

Running is a cardiovascular activity where participants jog or walk along paths, tracks, or open routes. For a person with vision impairment (PVI), running is made accessible through a structured guide-runner system, allowing participants to enjoy physical exercise and outdoor movement safely and confidently.

How is it Done?

  • Each visually impaired runner is paired with a trained volunteer guide who assists them throughout the run.
  • Guides provide directional cues, describe the surrounding environment, and help maintain a steady pace, often using a tether or verbal communication.
  • Participants can choose a group that matches their preferred intensity and fitness level:
    • Team A: Long Run (7 kilometers to 8 kilometers).
    • Team B: Medium Run (5 kilometers to 7 kilometers).
    • Team C: Short Run (3 kilometers to 5 kilometers).
    • Team D: Walking.

Safety and Support

Running sessions are structured with safety in mind:

  • Clear route planning and pre-run briefings are conducted before starting.
  • Continuous support and guidance are provided by trained volunteers throughout the session.
  • The partnership between runner and guide builds mutual trust and a strong sense of teamwork.

Benefits

  • Improves cardiovascular fitness, endurance, and overall physical health.
  • Builds confidence, independence, and personal well-being.
  • Encourages social connection, community engagement, and teamwork.
