Pilates (Reformer)

What is Pilates (Reformer)?

Reformer Pilates is a form of exercise performed on a specialised machine called a “reformer.” This equipment consists of a sliding carriage, adjustable springs, straps, and a footbar, all designed to create resistance and support a wide variety of movements. Unlike traditional mat Pilates, which mainly uses body weight, the reformer adds adjustable resistance, making the workout both more versatile and adaptable to different fitness levels.

How is it Done?

  • During a session, you perform slow, controlled movements while lying, sitting, kneeling, or standing on the moving carriage.
  • The machine’s springs can be adjusted to either assist or challenge your movements, allowing the exercises to be customised to your specific strength, mobility, and goals.
  • Because the carriage moves, the dynamic setup requires constant stabilisation, meaning your core muscles are actively engaged throughout the entire workout.
  • The springs provide continuous tension during each exercise, combining resistance training with controlled, precise movement.
  • The machine offers physical support and feedback, which helps you maintain correct form and alignment as you move.

Benefits

  • Simultaneously improves overall strength, flexibility, posture, and body awareness in a single, low-impact workout.
  • Helps build long, lean muscle while greatly improving balance, stability, and coordination.
  • Reduces the risk of injury by supporting the body and guiding it through proper movement patterns.
  • Highly versatile and accessible, making it a fantastic and safe option for beginners, athletes, and individuals undergoing rehabilitation.
